Homecoming a spectacular event

Many were moved to tears as nearly 1,000 alumnae, friends, faculty and supporters returned home to The Mary Louis Academy on October 2, 2010 for our 75th Anniversary Homecoming event. Guests entered through the main doors on Wexford Terrace, then climbed the staircase to the main foyer where they were greeted by Principal, Sister Kathleen McKinney, and Assistant Principals, Sister Filippa Luciano and Mrs. Ann Cordes, both alumnae.

Guests registered by class year then toured the school. Special set ups included A Walk through Time at TMLA which featured videos, photos and memorabilia from each decade. Special events were also held by the school robotics team, in the art studio, and in the gymnasium. The library held trivia contests and yearbook visuals. TMLA items were sold in the cafeteria, the Glee Club and Orchestra held a special performance of music through the decades and graduates recorded their own memories of TMLA. Present-day students, dressed in uniforms from all the decades, acted as tour guides. The day concluded with a Liturgy for deceased alumnae which concluded with a rousing rendition of the school song, CRUSADERS.

  1. I enjoyed the Homecoming and the festivities. Walking through the halls, instantly brought back vivid memories. It was all so familiar and secure, that it felt like, a lifetime had passed in the blink of an eye, and I was still that teenager rushing to get to the next class.
I was able to attend with two other alumnae who have remained my friends, along with the good wishes and regrets of other alumnae friends who could not make it. There were only six attendees from my year, '66, but we all found each other and enjoyed interesting conversation, both in the different exhibit rooms and in the Lunch Room. "Row A.....Hot Lunch Line."

The exhibits were very interesting, even the other decades. There were students dressed in our old uniforms, pictures of school trips, even someone's old Geometry notebook and much more. The Library hosted a Trivia game on the history of TMLA, which was very informative. I failed, so I bought the History of TMLA book and I will be prepared for the next test.

There was much "Oh this was my Homeroom," and "I had Physics here with Sr. Valeria." A few agricala, agricalorum and some remembered verb conjugations thrown in along the way. We even remembered most of the memorized "The quality of mercy" speech from The Merchant of Venice. We sang "Beneath the Blue and Gold" in the halls, in the rooms, and on the car ride home. We enjoyed the day so much, that we are now committed to recruiting as many as possible for the 2011 reunion....it will be our 45th. Sr. Ginny Downs has volunteered to see if any of the nuns from 1962-66 could attend also. I hope to see many of you there.

    Thank you Mary Louis.
